Hurtwood also has a wealth of experience on industrial heat supply systems including steam and high temperature hot water, steam boiler plant and the industrial combustion of coal and wood.
Some interesting projects completed recently:
Bristol Office BMS refurbishment
Starting June 2013, this project involved the refurbishment of an obsolete AS1000 BMS to a modern Siemens Desigo BMS using our Staeffit Modbus retrofit product. The entire upgrade of over 500 points was carried out for £35,000, a highly cost effective upgrade over a period of 4 months.
A Major South London University Hospital
The refurbishment of the motor and environmental controls on the London Wing was the first successful application of the retrofit concept. CUH had an old Honeywell Excel Classic system which we wanted to upgrade to Trend. We manufactured a simple PCB upon which 2 Trend IQ3 modules were mounted. These PCBs, equipped with the original Honeywell 31 pin connectors, plugged straight into the old Honeywell Back-planes. As a result, we were able to refurbish the entire London Wing controls, approximately 450 points, during a couple of weeks over a summer shutdown of the operating theatres. At the same time, we put in EP converters and eliminated all the old pneumatic temperature controls. The Trust recieved a new BMS which they didn't believe they would get with the finance and the time they had available.
A Major City Council
Researching and publishing a strategy for the migration of their controls from a Satchwell Sigma BMS to a Siemens Desigo BMS allowing the integration of far more of the councils monitoring and control services onto the BMS as well as achieving a step change in the effectiveness of their BMS maintenance. This covered a wide range of buildings from heating only boiler plants through to deep plan office buildings with Variable Air Volume (VAV) air handling systems. The predicted energy savings calculated by Hurtwood delivered the Salix funding that allowed the project to go ahead.
